- Investing in Our Infrastructure Pays Off During Heavy Rainfall
In years past, a week of significant rainfall like the one we recently experienced would have created challenges for our system. Even smaller amounts of rain led to overflow, reminding us just how important reliable infrastructure is to our community. This time, however, the story was very different. Thanks to the upgrades and improvements that the Delaware County Regional Wastewater District (DCRWD) has implemented over the past several years, we are happy to report that no overflows occurred during the heavy rainfall we experienced this past week. This is a clear example of how proactive investment in our wastewater infrastructure makes a real difference. These improvements didn’t happen overnight. They are the result of careful planning, long-term commitment, and ongoing work by our Board of Directors and Staff to modernize and strengthen our system. From equipment upgrades to system improvements designed to better manage Inflow and Infiltration (I&I), each step has been part of a larger plan for the common good. When large rain events occur, wastewater systems are often put under tremendous pressure. By investing in upgrades, DCRWD has positioned itself to handle these challenges more effectively and protect both public health and the environment. While there is always more work to do, this past week serves as a reminder that these efforts are paying off. DCRWD remains dedicated to continuing these improvements and ensuring our system is prepared for the future.

- New Lien Ordinance Information
Delaware County Regional Wastewater District has adopted a new Lien Ordinance to help ensure the continued operation and maintenance of the wastewater system that serves our community. This ordinance allows the District to place a lien on properties with long-delinquent wastewater bills, in accordance with Indiana law. The goal is not punitive, but rather to provide a fair and consistent process for addressing unpaid accounts while protecting the financial stability of the wastewater system for all customers. What This Means for Customers Customers are encouraged to remain current on wastewater payments. Accounts that become significantly past due may be subject to lien placement. Property owners will receive notice and have opportunities to resolve outstanding balances before further action is taken. The District understands that financial hardships can occur and encourages customers experiencing difficulty making payments to contact the office as soon as possible. Payment options or arrangements may be available. To learn more, please download the full Lien Ordinance below.
